Government mulls nationalising British Steel amid threat of Scunthorpe closure
Sir Keir Starmer has said "all options are on the table" with regard to Scunthorpe steelworks, following Chinese owner Jingye's decision to launch a consultation on its closure.
Shuttering of the British Steel plant's blast furnaces could mark the end of virgin steelmaking in the UK which has brought pressure on the Government to act in the face of thousands of job losses. The facility is said to be days away from running out of materials after Jingye initially indicated that closure.
